One of the most wonderful places in Kiev Podil is, in our opinion, Holy Ascension Florovsky Monastery (located on Frolovskaya street - well, they mixed up the letters a little, Happenes :)).
Can not imagine, what this monastery has not seen in its lifetime - fires, wars, revolution ... He also saw famous nuns - women from the most noble families of that time, whose fate was so sad and dramatic, that they lived out their days within the walls of the Florovsky Monastery.
And the walls themselves are remarkable. Built approximately 5 centuries ago, the convent survived the fires, who were frequent guests on the wooden Podil, and other difficulties. But he did not survive the Soviet power - the monastery was closed in 1929 year. Later, true, with the arrival of the Germans in Kiev, in 1941, the monastery reopened - and still exists today.
And even with such truly paradise gardens:
It cannot be said, that the years of Soviet power were limited to the Frolovsky Monastery only by a temporary closure. In the 60s, one of the temples was turned into a garment factory, and in part of the buildings there is a prosthetic plant. Now all the surviving temples have been returned to the monastery., but a trace of those times remained - but what a ... Here is a view from the back courtyard:
But even these abandoned hostels, sewing shops and other buildings of unknown purpose cannot spoil the wonderful experience, which creates the Florovsky Monastery. With its beautiful gardens, a source of healing water and cats, which you can not only feed, but also take with you 🙂
