Instagram-inspired: poufs and ottomans — slightly more, than just a piece of furniture

Ottomans are not an excess and not a sign of luxury.. Poof — it is convenient and beautiful!

Ottoman — this is that piece of furniture, which will complement and complete any interior! You can put a guest on it, if the chairs run out, you can put a cup on it, laptop, put your feet, and even your pet 🙂

The French and English call him an ottoman, and this is a separate and very interesting story. AND, by the way, our vocabulary also has an analogue of this word - ottoman.

It is not difficult to guess by the sound, this word appeared during the Ottoman, or as we often say — Ottoman Empire and its interiors. So here, ottomans were the main part of seating and resting places, and were low wooden platforms, littered with pillows, placed around the perimeter of the room, along three of the four walls, or around the columns.

Finally, in the interiors of Europe ottaman puffs were brought at the end 18 century. The first mention of the word ottomane occurs in a French written source in 1729 year.

While the first English-language mention is found in one of the memorial works Thomas Jefferson in 1789. The modern, European, which means a round or rectangular shape, our ottoman gets already in 19 century.
