Walking: stories and history? The life and death of a Ukrainian Gaudi

One of the most, in our opinion, interesting architects, built in Kiev in 19 and 20 centuries. Joseph Zektser.

He is interesting, first of all, themes, which he built in completely different styles - depending on the wishes of the customer and, probably, own vision.

Here, eg, very exquisite "Florentine" building at st. Рейтарская, 22. Although in Kiev you can see almost all possible architectural styles (after all, one style dominates here - "Kiev borscht" :)), this building falls out of the architectural tradition of the City.

Such limitless abilities of an architect are explained by, probably, themes, which is difficult to call a European city, in which he would not study.

But back to the building itself.

It was built for the Hospital of the Emergency Medicine Society.. In fact, it was almost the first ambulance hospital in the Russian Empire.. Interesting, that the financing of the institution was not carried out by the state, but for a sponsor's account.

And it was this building that became the place, where the life of the architect himself ended. The reason is an accident. The same happened to Joseph Zektser, what about his great Spanish colleague Antoni Gaudi: he got hit by a tram .... The still living architect was taken to the ambulance hospital, in which he was surrounded by maximum attention - the hospital staff knew, who is in front of him. However, the architect could not be helped., he died with words: “I built a lot, now let others build ".

Unfortunately, now everything, what the building needs is a major overhaul 🙁
