Another unusual Kiev mansion of the early 20th century (on the street. Oles Honchar, 33-b) by the most mysterious architect, "Father of Kiev Art Nouveau" Ignatius Ledokhovsky. This building is unusual, if only because, that does not fall apart before our eyes, but is downright in fair condition. And its historical significance is difficult to underestimate.. But more on that later..
According to the customer's idea (Doctor of Medicine Pyotr Krachkovsky) a surgical clinic was to be located in the house. And according to the architect's idea, the building took the form of a ship.. Association, probably, was like that — ship, who can accept and help those drowning in the sea of human diseases.

Although this column is calling, rather, shin bone association 🙂

Any hideout should always have a formidable guardian guard. He is here too, don't know who, and the "king of beasts".

Unfortunately, after the end of construction, everything went according to the principle “it didn't become so, as expected ". Building owner — Dr. Kachkovsky — could not fully realize himself in the new clinic - two years after the completion of construction, he died. From complications after an unsuccessful operation. The clinic passed to his colleague - Ignatiy Makovsky. It was under his name that she began her work in 1910 year.
On the facade of the building you can still see the inscription "Surgical Hospital of Doctor of Medicine Makovsky", on both sides of which there are female birds. If you are familiar with ancient myths, you know that, that they ward off trouble and give strength.

There are also a lot of images of snakes on the facade., which is not surprising, after all, it is the snakes that are the symbol of healing, and the emblem of medicine in general.
On both sides of the main entrance there are images of the heroes of the famous knightly legend about Tristan and Isolde.

And now about the historical significance of the building: it is notorious for, that it was here that one of the last knights of the Russian Empire found his last refuge. In September 1911 of the year, after severe injury, received at the Kiev Opera, Pyotr Stolypin was taken to the Makovsky clinic. The brightest medical stars gathered in Kiev, however, their efforts were in vain - it was not possible to save Stolypin.
During the First World War, a military hospital was located in the Makovsky hospital, in Soviet times — ophthalmological clinic and other medical institutions.
FROM 1998 the building is occupied by the party "People's Movement of Ukraine".
