A lovely Chesterfield is not just a piece of furniture, but part of world history

There are many legends and assumptions about the origin of the most classic and, in the same time, fashionable to this day interior details - Chesterfield sofa. As the Oxford English Dictionary tells us, the word Chesterfield was already used in the 1800s to describe a leather sofa.

One of the legends tells the story of Lord Philip Stanhope, 4-m Count Chesterfield (1694 — 1773) — famous politician, the writer, patron of Voltaire and trendsetters fashions of their time, who asked local artisans to create a piece of furniture, allowing gentlemen to sit upright and decorous, wherein, arrive in a comfortable body position and do not wrinkle clothes. And although, we do not have a single proof of the existence of this noble legend, still the fact, that the sofa is the Lord's namesake, takes place, and hence the legend too 🙂

Well, there is nothing more to add, Chesterfield sofa - an example of the immortality of classics and art, which is also the art of interior.
